What are you currently collecting?

After lurking for a few years I would like to ask what folks on here collect besides bullion.

I will use myself as an example. I am currently working on completing a Dansco 7070 Album which is a Type coin album of all major US coins circulated since 1800. Right now I am looking for a reasonable Coronet half-cent 1849-57.

I'd like to know what some of you are into, besides amassing mountains of 90% (not that there is anything wrong with that mind you).:emotions16:

I have been collecting 10oz Englehard Ag bars.

They are hard to find up here and fetch a steep premium when they become available.

I'd say look at HistoryStudent's thread some for really interesting stuff.

I just try to get new coins as they are issued from the various yearly sets that I photo, like Lunars, Pandas, Brits, etc. Something I haven't done in a while is prowl ebay looking for interesting different and unusual types. I've found some fun but not very expensive stuff like the 1000 togrog silver coin below issued by Mongolia.

Hypergrade newer Canadian stuff, and super-key dates in good, collectible grades of at least VF. For fun right now I'm going back to pre-TPG collecting and filling up an album (Canadian small cents, 1920-date). I also work on cameo sets and have a special interst in mules. I buy bullion for logical reasons, but I have way more fun with numismatic stuff (as David Hall likes to say - "Have fun with your coins!").

For Au I need a 1/4 Krugger to have one of each, hope to find one this weekend. Next I'll be looking for Chinese at reasonable premiums so I can own some of them back. Sovereigns at low premiums, need a young Victoria.

Ag will be a 100oz Engelhard bull bar but that will be a while to fit in the budget. I'm drawn to International Trade Unit rounds because of the high relief on them. Just about any "old pour" bar.

After losing all of my silver bullion in a boating accident, the trauma of the event has caused me to experience explosive diarrhea every time I touch or buy silver. I've redirected my hunter-gatherer drive in a different direction: I now collect moist wipes:

A truly imaginative Gimmer could make a lot of money with that malady. May I suggest that you and a lawyer team up for a lucrative career profiting from the restaurant industry?

I'll buy nearly any PM when the price is right. A couple of weeks ago, APMEX was unloading 2009 Year of the Ox colorized 1/10 ounce gold coins at spot. I don't know that I'm a fan of colorized coins. But any time I can buy fractional gold at spot prices, I'm in. The 10 coins I bought came to $1125 including shipping. They arrived today and I am very, very pleased.

Beanie Babies and My Little Ponies here. Just because the market for them has dropped some 99% does not mean they won't make a comeback.

If you want I could pull some strings and get you in on the ground level of this incredible investment opportunity.

Why do you limit to only '70?s? Nothing good in the 60s or the 80s?

I guess I am just a silver art bar snob.

I do collect a few silver art bars from the '80's and '90's as well as some select few "modern" silver art bars but I do not have many SABs from different decades and I like the '70's SABs more because the art bars from the '70's had more interesting themes that I liked. The art work on some of the '70's SABs is more appealing to me than silver art bars that were minted in other decades IMO. There also appeared to be more different '70's SABs that were minted than any other SAB from any other decade.

I collect:

Old tobacco card inserts

50's - 60's baseball cards and memorabilia

Hemingray insulators

S/GAE's

Mercs

Silver Washington quarters

64 Kennedys (can't get enough of them got enough to start my own mint)

Old antique threshing equipment

Cents and nickels

And various other kinds of collections that I've started over the years and have never finished because I forgot I started them. My kids are going to hate me someday when they go to clean my house out. Or, they might be really happy with what they find!

That might be an old custom made Absinthe spoon Mom, especially if it came from france or new orleans.
Most of the commercially made absinthe spoons were made to settle on top of a glass, but not all of them.
The design on the handle makes me think it's all about Absinthe, and you may have something there worth a lot more than you think to the right collector!!:ARMS1:

And I know History Student blows me away but, I got one of these. It's AD150-151, Roman, Antoninus Pius (138-161) Denarius, Rome. That makes this coin over 1800 years old.

As a matter of fact, I did buy it in New Orleans - good call, Irons!:ok:

It was made by Durgin, and I'm pretty sure it's a sugar sifter, as it's a fairly typical form - but I like your idea of an absinthe spoon much better. The only absinthe spoons I was familiar with have sort of a V shape with piercings, to hold the sugar cube. I looked it up after you suggested the idea - I never realized there was such a wide variety in forms. Some of the old silver ones are very nice, and not that dissimilar to mine. If I ever decide to sell it (unlikely!) I may use your identification instead, as it's much more exciting than mine!

Hey Mick. Is that collecting or prepping?
